A HISTORIC LIMITED EDITION PRINT COMMEMORATING D-DAY, JUNE 6 1944 D-DAY ARMADA Nicolas Trudgian As the sun begins to sink on the late afternoon of D-Day +1, a mighty Allied aerial armada heads inland over the Normandy invasion beaches, 7th June 1944. In the company of P-51s of the 354th Fighter Group, B-26 Marauders from the 397th Bomb Group prepare to bomb heavily defended German positions lying ahead of the Allied advance up from the beach-head. THE SIGNATURES Released in 1996 to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of D-Day, the print is individually numbered and personally signed in pencil by the artist and three top P-51 Mustang Aces who flew combat missions on D-Day, 6 June 1944. Captain CLAYTON GROSS - Flying throughout D-Day with the 354th FG he finished the war with over 100 combat missions and 6 victories, including an Me262 jet Colonel MAURICE LONG - He flew on D-Day with the 354th FG and finished his career with 140 combat missions and 8½ aerial victories Major General DONALD STRAIT - Taking part in all the D-Day operations, he flew P-47s and P-51s with the 361st FG, finishing the war with 122 combat missions and 13½ air victories 6 June 1944 was perhaps the most decisive day in the Military events of World War II, and as we commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Allied Invasion this is the perfect acquisition for any collection, particularly as all of the signatories have since passed into history.
