"Maintenance Manual P-51D Fighter Airplanes" North American Aviation Report No. NA-5865 , March 22, 1944, 440 pages. This is the manual from the manufacturer, analogous to Boeing's "Familiarization and Maintenance" manuals. The military manuals, such as the Erection and Maintenance manuals are taken from this. In some ways, this is a superior manual when compared to the military ones - it is all color glossy paper. It has a lot of helpful tips, as well as the dry technical descriptions. Sections include Description, Shipment & Erection, Handling & Maintenance, Fixed Surfaces, Movable Surfaces, Surface Controls, Fuselage, Landing Gear, Wheels & Brakes, Hydraulics, Engine & Propeller, Fuel System, Oil System, Cooling System, Instruments, Electrical, Radio, Armament, Oxygen, Weight Data, Material Specification. There are very detailed descriptions and images of each and every part of the aircraft. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A PHYSICAL DUPLICATE OF THE ORIGINAL. It is comb-bound with acetate front and back covers. The original was a soft-cover booklet, using professional binding. The contents, detail, and color of each page have been faithfully reproduced, but it is not bound the way the original was.
