Parasol aircraft, identified by the caption "Morane Parasol." Taken in 1918, it documents a scene from the 157th Aero Squadron, known for operating primarily out of an airfield at Chatillon-sur-Seine, France. Although the specific pilots are not identified, the photograph offers a rare glimpse into the aviation history of World War I, likely captured by Sgt. Alexander Wilson or his contemporaries. The Morane Parasol was an integral part of early military aviation due to its unique design and operational capabilities. It featured a parasol wing configuration that set it apart from other aircraft of its time. As a reconnaissance plane, it played a crucial role in gathering intelligence and providing support for ground troops. The use of these aircraft during the war contributed significantly to the development of aerial combat and reconnaissance techniques that would evolve in subsequent conflicts.
